82 candidates file nominations for Nagaland assembly polls

Guwahati: The deadline to file a nomination for the February 27 Nagaland Assembly elections is today. A total of 82 candidates have filled nominations so far for the upcoming Nagaland Assembly Elections as on February 7.

While the BJP has 11 candidates on their list, the NDPP has fielded 28. Both NCP and NPP have submitted four candidates. While NPF has four candidates, NPE only has three. While LJP only has one candidate, INC and LJP(RV) both have four candidates. As of right now, both JD(U) and RJD have fielded two candidates for the next elections.

Nagaland will have elections on February 27 and the counting of votes will take place on March 2. In a statement made earlier on February 4, Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised the Eastern Nagaland Peoples Organization for choosing to back off on its pledge to boycott the assembly elections, calling it a “display of trust in the Modi government.”

Taking to Twitter, Shah said “It is heartening that in an expression of trust in the Modi government, the Eastern Nagaland Peoples Organisation (ENPO) in Nagaland has withdrawn its call to boycott the assembly elections. The decision will help in keeping the ongoing process of peace and development unhindered.”

The Home Minister further said that he is grateful for their positive gesture reaffirming ENPO’s commitment to democratic processes.
