Assam Congress to Contest All 40 Seats in BTC Elections

Guwahati: The Assam Congress has announced its decision to contest all 40 seats in the upcoming Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections, scheduled for September.

The party has ruled out any alliance, opting to go solo in the polls. Prithviraj Sathe, Secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) and in-charge of Assam, made the announcement during a workshop camp organized by the Social Media and Information Technology Department in Kokrajhar.

Sathe stated that the Congress is fully prepared to fight the BTC elections independently, believing that the people of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) are looking for change. “We aim to provide that alternative,” he said, adding that the party is actively working to strengthen its organizational base across the BTR. The Congress leader also criticized the ruling BTC government, formed by the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) in alliance with the BJP, claiming that there is growing dissatisfaction among the public regarding the current administration.

The workshop camp focused on enhancing digital outreach, with representatives from all 40 BTC constituencies attending the program. The initiative aimed to equip party workers with skills in social media and information technology to better connect with voters. Key attendees included APCC Working President, MLA Zakir Hussain Sikdar, MLA Rashlin Tirkey, and Pradip Sarkar, along with AICC’s social media in-charge for Assam.
