Guwahati: Another minister, Dara Singh Chauhan has quit Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) after the sudden resignation of Swami Prasad Maurya from the Yogi Adityanath’s cabinet in Uttar Pradesh.
He is the second Other Backward Class leader to quit the Yogi team just before the Uttar Pradesh election next month.
In a huge blow to BJP, two ministers and at least four MLAs have quit so far before the election in UP and are set to join the Samajwadi Party of Akhilesh Yadav.
It may be mentioned that in the Yogi Adityanath cabinet, Dara Singh Chauhan was the Minister of Forest and Environment. On Wednesday, he resigned from his position, citing the government’s disregard of the poor and dalits.
Roshan Lal Verma, Brijesh Prajapati, Bhagwati Sagar, and Vinay Shakya, four additional MLAs close to him, announced their resignations in the hours that followed.
