Assam: 3 arrested for cattle smuggling
Guwahati: Assam Police arrested three persons in connection with cattle smuggling in Jorabat of Meghalaya on Thursday.
The arrestees were identified as Asabul Ali of Kathuri, Surender Lohar of Samuguri and Ali Ansari of Ulani.
In separate operations by East Guwahati Police Department from the Jorabat Police Outpost incepted illegal cattle movement and arrested the three accused at Jorabat.
According to reports, the accused were smuggling 40 cows in two trucks which were headed towards Meghalaya when they were stopped near Jorabat.
Police informed that one of the trucks had a Guwahati registration while the other had a Sivasagar registration.
The Police officials further seized both the trucks.
Legal action has been taken into the matter and further investigation is underway.
Sharing the news on Twitter, Guwahati Police wrote, “An EGPD team from Jorabat OP of Basistha PS arrested 3 persons in 2 separate actions for smuggling 40 cattle in trucks en route Meghalaya. 2 trucks have been seized. The arrested culprits are: Asabul Ali (29) of Kathuri, Surender Lohar (26) of Samuguri, Ali Ansari (21) of Ulani.”
