2 killed, 7 injured in a road accident in Assam’s Barpeta

Guwahati: Two persons died and seven injured in a road accident in Barpeta district of Assam on Wednesday morning.

The incident took place at around 4.20 am in the morning on the bridge over the Chaulkhowa river of the district.

The two deceased identified as Abul, a resident of Baramara village in Barpeta district and Inzamul from Kahikuchi village in Patbaushi while the injured have been identified as Jeherul, Hazrat Mulla, Rafiqul, Shahrukh and Shahjamal, residents of Bahari village in the district.

The collision took place between a truck and a tempo.

The injured were immediately rushed to Barpeta Medical College and Hospital where they are currently receiving treatment.

Reportedly, the driver of the tempo identified as Jalal Meena is also in a serious condition and the passenger alongside him in the front, was identified as Jalilur.

As per the sources of MyNewsNE, the tempo was headed from Barpeta Road railway station towards Bahari village and was on the Chowlkhowa bridge, when the accident took place.

It needs to be noted that the passengers on the tempo were mostly Maharashtra-based labourers. They were returning home for Eid.

It may be mentioned that they had taken a train from Mumbai to Barpeta this morning and hired a tempo to take them to their homes in Bahari.
