Assam: Ferry Service Between Majuli- Nimati Ghat Resumes From Today
Guwahati: The ferry service between Majuli-Nimatighat has resumed from today (May 18).
The decision for the resumption of the service was taken by the Majuli District Administration as the water-level in the Brahmaputra had receded.
The ferry service has resumed from Kamalabari ghat and Aflamukh ghat to Nimati ghat.
The ferry service between Majuli and Nimatighat remained suspended for three days from May 15-17 due to the rise in water level in the Brahmaputra River.
Meanwhile, ferry services between Guwahati and North Guwahati and plying of any vehicle in river Brahmaputra have been suspended on Tuesday subject to the recession of the water level.
The ferry service between Guwahati and North Guwahati has been disrupted due to the rising water level since May 17.
As heavy rains pounded numerous sections of the state and the Northeast, water levels in the Brahmaputra have reached unsafe levels.
Meanwhile, the suspension of services has created difficulties for many who prefer to travel by ferry.
It should be mentioned that the meteorological department in Guwahati has issued a heavy rainfall warning.
It informed that the city will likely to receive two to three centimetres of rainfall every hour over the next few days.
