World Environment Day: Over two lakh saplings planted in Nagaland’s Phek
Guwahati: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Sunday urged people to “choose cleaner and greener lives” in order to live in harmony with nature.
CM Rio remarked that with this year’s theme of “Only One Earth,” all citizens must recognise that the earth is precious and that we are all a part of its ecosystem.
“Let us live sustainably with nature by choosing cleaner & greener lifestyles. Happy World Environment Day,” Rio said on Twitter.

On the occasion of World Environment Day, the Nagaland government is organising a massive plantation campaign across the state.
To commemorate the day, the Phek district planning and development board planted around two lakh seedlings in a huge endeavour.
Minister of State Planning and Land Revenue Neiba Kronu also joined the initiative and asked people to care for the newly planted trees because of their economic worth.
A youth organisation in three districts, Chumoukedima, Dimapur, and Kohima, planted almost 10,000 saplings suited for 104 Angami villages, while another similar body in Kohima Village commemorated the day by planting 1,500 saplings.
Sewanu village in Tseminyu district commemorated the day by planting cherry, ashoka, and bokal trees in mass.
Churches around the state are organising tree-planting efforts on their properties to create a green atmosphere.
The Naga Students’ Federation, based in Kohima is an umbrella organisation for Naga students in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, and Nagaland.
World Environment Day is commemorated every year on June 5th.
The NSF held tree-planting drives in the presence of its senior leaders, including cabinet ministers and legislators in the Naga Solidarity Park in Kohima.
