Due to the COVID pandemic, a low pass % in the HSLC exam is expected: Ranoj Pegu

Guwahati: Congratulations to all of the applicants who passed the HSLC exam today. Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu on Tuesday said that the poor success percentage in the examination is unavoidable because of the COVID-19 pandemic which has impacted the education system.

The minister said that The HSLC examination will continue and the 10 posts will be available. “Government school pass rates have dropped, and the reasons for this will be investigated. The findings in the tribal districts of Chirang, Cachar, and Karbi Anglong are not satisfactory, and this must be investigated. The outcome of the Dima Hasao area is better than that of Karbi Anglong, the minister added.

He further stated that the tea garden areas’ education system is behind the times. “Schools have been created in the tea garden areas, but education is lagging, and we shall investigate why this is the case. We’ve also asked SEBA to look into why the tea garden areas are falling behind in the educational system,” Pegu said.

The minister further stated that English medium schools have high performance. “The facilities and number of teachers in government schools are inadequate, resulting in poor performance. The administration is attempting to improve the infrastructure in government schools in order to boost performance,” he added.
