Guwahati: A grenade was discovered in the riverbed beneath the Delhi Noida Direct Flyway, or DND, in Delhi’s Mayur Vihar neighbourhood on Saturday night.
According to reports, a party of divers were digging for pennies in the riverbed when they discovered the grenade in a pot.
The discovery was quickly reported to Delhi police and the National Security Guards (NSG).
The united crew arrived on the scene and defused the grenade, which appeared to be an old one, safely.
Meanwhile, the NSG team performed a field investigation of the area, and a FIR was filed at Mayur Vihar police station under the Explosive Substances Act.
“The grenade is an old, rusting relic. We believe the pot was thrown into the river from the bridge. The police performed an investigation and analysed surveillance footage but found nothing untoward,” a senior police officer said.
