M’laya Govt approves amendment of Meghalaya Services Rules for recruitment of doctors
Guwahati: The Meghalaya government has made a number of crucial decisions, including the approval of an amendment to the Meghalaya Health Service Rules to include the Meghalaya Medical Service Recruitment Board in the rules during a cabinet meeting on Tuesday. This will allow the MMSRB to operate and conduct the required exams and recruitment for openings in doctor positions in the state.
12 new people’s colleges have also been sanctioned and approved in the state by the government.
The colleges which will be accorded approval as new peoples college are: Thomas Jones Synod College, West Jaiñtia Hills District, Abong Noga College, West Garo Hills District, Khrawsing Christian College, East Khasi Hills District, Ri War College, Loyola College, East Garo Hills, Balawan College, Ri Bhoi District, Mawsynram Border Area College, Selsella College, Seng Khasi College, Shillong, Mendipathar College, North Garo Hills, Sngap Syiem Memorial College, West Khasi Hills and Tikrilkilla College West Garo Hills.
The cabinet decided to transform Captain Williamson Sangma Technical University into a State University, after which colleges within the state will have the opportunity to be affiliated with the new State University due to Meghalaya’s lack of a state university and all colleges being affiliated with North East Hill University (NEHU).
The government has agreed to launch BA and BCom courses at the College of Teacher Education, Tura, by creating 39 jobs and other non-teaching staff positions in compliance with the New Education Policy.
The state cabinet cleared the sanctioned posts on Tuesday for the Shillong Government College of Engineering and the College of Architecture and Urban Planning Tura in order for the first academic session to begin by July of next year.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma stated following the meeting that 99.9% of the two colleges’ buildings have been built.
“The sanctioned posts have been approved and after the necessary procedures of different commissions and agencies which need to be taken are done we are hopeful that by July, the first academic session of 2023 can be started,” he told reporters.
When questioned, the chief minister said that the Shillong Government College of Engineering will receive about 50 new positions, and the Tura College of Architecture and Urban Planning would receive 77 new positions.
He estimated that the annual financial effects would be around Rs 2.87 crore for the engineering institution and Rs 2.7 crore for the college of architecture and planning in Tura.
