Guwahati: A total of 40 houses were evacuated on Tuesday at Bhootnath in the concrete city of Guwahati.
According to reports, the eviction drive was carried out by the District Administration and Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC).
The property behind the Bhootnath cemetery was allegedly encroached upon by various persons, who then constructed homes there.
These 40 dwellings that were constructed unlawfully were removed during the eviction.
Notably, GMC has been conducting eviction drives in several parts of the city.
A few days ago, an eviction effort was carried out against illegally erected shops under the Ulubari flyover near the Prag Tower building.
Reporte further claimed that the several mobile restaurants that had been set up below the flyover were unlawful. During the drive, several of these roadside stalls were removed.
