Assam: Morigaon District Administration Carries Out Eviction Drive

Guwahati: An eviction drive has been conducted against the people living on the playground of the Barthal Dolaigaon Higher Secondary School in Morigaon district of Assam by the Circle Officer of Lahrighat Revenue Circle Swaraj Bharat Lagasso.

According to reports, for several years, 40 to 50 families had been residing on the playground after they had lost their land due to soil erosion.

The folks who were evicted are upset that, despite going through a difficult time in their lives, no political leaders have yet to visit them and listen to their difficulties.

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on December 21 said that more eviction drives are on the cards in the Goalpara district.

While speaking in the Assembly Sarma said, ”Many bighas lands of forest are being encroached upon. Now, High Court has ordered to clear this land.”

He further stated that there was no use in talking about the eviction drills that the BJP government will continue to conduct.

”We will not stop and we will clear forest and government land across the state as well as in Batadrava,” he added.

Sarma added that Batadrava and other Sattras are symbols of the Assamese people’s culture and identity.

” Be it a Hindu or Muslim, all people will have to vacate Sattra land. We request all to leave the encroached land or else we will do eviction there,” he informed.
