Tributes To Folk Legend Pratima Barua Pandey
Guwahati: Tributes were paid to the legendary folk singer Pratima Barua Pandey on her death anniversary on Tuesday.
Goalpariya folk singer Pratima popularised Goalpariya Lokgeet on a national scale with songs like “Hastir Kanya,” “Mur Mahut Bandhure,” and a host of others.
She hailed from the Gauripur royal family in the Dhubri district of west Assam. The Padma Shri and Sangeet Natak Akademi honours were given to her in recognition of her efforts to popularise Goalpariya folk music.
Barua Pandey was the niece of Devdas director Pramathesh Chandra Barua and the daughter of Prakritish Chandra Barua.
Taking to Twitter, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma paid tribute to the legend folk singer and said that she made huge contribution to the art and brought to national platform.
Meanwhile, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that Pratima Barua Pandey was a unique artist who enriched the folk music genre of Assam.
