Guwahati: In a shocking incident that occurred in the Goalpara district of Assam, a man killed himself after allegedly being blackmailed by two people over an offensive video of his that they had captured. The victim recorded a video before resorting to extreme measures to ask Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for justice.
The horrific tragedy from Baguan in Goalpara has come to light. According to reports, the victim Azizul Haque had been the target of a long-running blackmail campaign by the ex-president of the Nalanga Gaon Panchayat and the husband of a regional councillor for the Panchayat in Goalpara over an inappropriate video of his.
Haque, a resident of Kamandanga village in Goalpara had an illicit relationship outside of his marriage. The accused had captured an offensive video of him in which he was in an awkward position with the woman. Then they forced the victim to pay them a significant amount of money using the footage.
The victim decided to take his own life since he was trapped and had nowhere else to go. But first, he made a video in which he outlined the entire situation and begged the chief minister to take action.
In the video, the victim who died later can be heard saying, “Respected Assam CM, I wanted to narrate something to you. Sir, I am being blackmailed by Dilowara Begum, Nalanga Panchayat, Goalpara. She recorded a comprising video and extorted Rs 25 lakhs from me. A councilor, Gulam Maula is also in on the act. I sold my land and everything to pay them off, but they still wanted more. My wife holds a small NRLM post in Goalpara which they now want.”
He continued, “They also asked me to kill my wife. I tried twice but failed. I cannot kill the person whom I love so much. Sir, they have taken everything from me. Please intervene; I don’t have any option but to kill myself.”
Soon after recording the video, Azizul Haque reportedly killed himself. Meanwhile, a local in Goalpara who had knowledge of the incident said, “Two people, a man and a woman are involved in the incident. The woman is Dilowara Begum, ex-President of Nalanga Gaon Panchayat, Goalpara and Gulam Maula, the husband of present councilor. Some of us got the video at 3 am in the night. I cannot describe in words that has happened. He was like a younger brother to me. I also helped him in paying off the blackmailers by selling off three bighas of my land.”
“He had come to me several times asking for money, but he never mentioned why he needed the money. Today, we came to know why he was asking for the money,” the Bagaun resident in Goalpara added while breaking down.
