Pawan Khera Arrested By Assam Police in Delhi Airport

Guwahati: Congress leader Pawan Khera was detained by Assam police at the Delhi airport on February 23 after being removed by officials from a Delhi-Raipur Indigo flight.

According to reports, Police officers are seen escorting Khera to their vehicle in footage. Khera vowed to defend himself in any legal matter that led to his detention.

Reportedly, a case has been filed against him at the Haflong police station in Dima Hasao district of Assam.

According to IGP L&O & Spox Prasanta Kumar Bhuyan, Pawan would be sent to Assam on transit remand after being presented in Delhi court.

A political drama unfolded at Delhi airport after Pawan Khera was deplaned from a Raipur-bound IndiGo flight.

Following Khera’s deboarding, a number of party leaders earlier exited the aircraft and organised a dharna on the runway. Khera was travelling to Raipur to attend the Congress meeting.

Flight attendants informed Congress lawmakers that there was a mix-up with Khera’s bags as the drama at terminal one of these domestic airports intensified. They informed him that the cops were en route and would give him an explanation.

However, the Delhi Police received a paper from the Assam Police asking for their assistance in detaining Khera.

According to PTI, a case has been registered against Khera under various sections of the IPC for his alleged remarks against the prime minister.

“We are all on the @IndiGo6E flight 6E 204 to Raipur and all of a sudden my colleague @Pawankhera has been asked to deplane,” Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate, who was also on the flight, said on Twitter.

“What sort of high-handedness is this? Is there any rule of law? On what grounds is this being done and under whose order?” she said.
