Another Accused in Ranjit Bora Murder Case Arrested By Guwahati Police
Guwahati: Another accused in the Ranjit Bora murder case has been taken into custody by the Guwahati Police.
The arrested accused has been identified as Jitumoni Barman is being held by the Dispur Police for five days.
Jitumoni had previously been under the custody of the Kamalpur Police.
According to reports, Jitumoni is one of the six people who made up the gang who killed Guwahati businessman Ranjit Bora.
On November 21, last year, when Ranjit Bora, the manager of local dairy company Purabi Dairy headed to the bank to deposit money, two bike-borne miscreants arrived and opened fire at him in the Panjabari area in broad daylight and fled with the money.
Bora passed away from his wounds after being taken to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).
According to the police, a six-member gang was involved in the murder case. An SIT (Special Investigation Team) had been assembled to look into the situation.
The six-member group who orchestrated the murder of the Guwahati businessman was led by Shah Alam Talukdar.
Shah Alam allegedly attempted to flee from police custody on February 18 and was shot dead by officers as a result. Shah Alam reportedly escaped from police custody while wearing handcuffs on Thursday while being transported to Botahghuli for the purpose of conducting a search operation.
He was shot dead at Jorabat in the outskirts of Guwahati by a team of Satgaon police.
An accused identified Haren Patgiri, a member of the Shah Alam gang, was arrested earlier this month during a joint operation by the Crime Branch and Dispur Police in the Kahilipara locality of Guwahati.
