Meghalaya: ECI issues notice to state minister for ‘distributing money’ amid pollS
Guwahati: Meghalaya minister Brolding Nongsiej has been issued a show-cause notice by the Election Commission of India (ECI) for allegedly breaking the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by disbursing money in his district.
According to the reports, the warning was given as a result of a complaint made against the minister to the returning officer by a social organisation.
”In its complaint, the organisation had alleged that a woman was seen accepting the money being given by the minister,” the reports claimed.
After the complaint, the returning officer of the West Khasi Hills district’s Mawthadraishan Assembly constituency requested the United Democratic Party (UDP) candidate to respond by February 25 and explain why no further action should be taken against him.
Elections to the 60-member Assembly are scheduled to be held on February 27 and the counting of votes will take place on March 2.
