Assam CM: Pawan Khera Tendered Unconditional Apology

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed that Congress leader Pawan Khera had offered an unqualified apology on Friday.

Taking to Twitter, he wrote, “The majesty of law shall always prevail. The accused has tendered an unconditional apology (Para 7).”

“We hope that keeping the sanctity of public places, no one will use uncivilized language in political discourse hereafter. @assampolice will follow the matter to its logical end,” he added.

Notably, Pawan Khera was taken into custody by Assam Police after being taken off an Indigo flight in New Delhi.

The Congress leader was taken into custody after a charge was filed against him at the Haflong police station in the Dima Hasao district of Assam.

According to reports, Khera was prevented from boarding a plane at the Delhi airport following a plea from the Assam Police.

Khera declared that he is “ready to fight the long war” soon after the police arrested him.

Congress leader Pawan Khera was granted interim bail by the Supreme Court shortly after he deplaned from an Indigo flight on the same day.

The Supreme Court ordered the Dwarka Court to grant him temporary release and served notice on the Assam Police and the Uttar Pradesh Police in response to Khera’s request for the clubbing of FIRs.

The top court said that till the next date of hearing, the petitioner will be released on interim bail by the Dwarka court.
