NPP to form alliance government with BJP in Meghalaya

Guwahati: The National People’s Party (NPP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (NJP) will form the government in Meghalaya, as per reports emerged.

According to reports, negotiations on a coalition between the BJP and NPP in Meghalaya are ongoing, and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will meet Conrad Sangma.

Meanwhile, the Meghalaya Chief Minister defeated his rival and BJP leader Bernard Marak in the South Tura constituency of the state’s Assembly elections.

The NPP’s leader, Sangma, expressed his satisfaction over people supporting his party and stated they are still waiting for a few numbers to come in.

According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), Sangma won with 10,090 votes and the estimated turnout was 49.42 percent.

Sangma’s NPP presently holds the lead in 21 seats and has won five seats.

However, Rupa M. Marak of the Trinamool Congress narrowly defeated Sangma’s older brother James Pangsang K. Sangma, a three-time NPP MLA from Dadenggre, by just 7 votes.
