Manik Saha Sworn-In as Tripura Chief Minister
Guwahati: Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) leader Dr Manik Saha took oath as Tripura’s chief minister for a second term on March 8 in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The oath ceremony was held at Vivekananda Maidan in Agartala, and BJP’s senior leaders like Union Home minister Amit Shah and BJP chief JP Nadda, and several CMs of BJP-ruled states were present on the occasion.
Saha declared his intention to establish the government on March 6 after being chosen by the newly elected BJP MLAs in the state in unanimity. Additionally, the other MLAs also took an oath of office today.
With a vote share of about 39%, the Saffron party won 32 of the 60 seats in the recently held Assembly election. On the other hand, Tipra Motha emerged as the second-largest party with 13 seats.
It needs to be mentioned that Saha succeeded Biplab Deb as the state’s chief minister in 2022, only a few months before the election. He joined the BJP after leaving the Congress in 2016.
He was elected to the Rajya Sabha in March 2022.
