After RRR, Bahubali, Vijayendra Prasad Working on His Next Novel on ‘Ahom General Lachit Borphukan’
Entertainment Desk, 20 May: The author of “RRR” Vijayendra Prasad and the father of well-known film director SS Rajamouli is currently at work on a new book that will tell the tale of Lachit Borphukan, an Ahom general who lived in the seventeenth century. The first book of the series will be named “Brahmaputra: The Ahom Son Rises.”
The novel which will be published by Harper Colons Publishers India on May 30 and was co-authored by the screenwriter and navy officer-turned-espionage fiction author Kulpreet Yadav who has written blockbuster films.
Lachit falls in love with Princess Padmini, the daughter of Swargadeo Jayadhwaj Singha, the then-ruler of Ahom and the action-romance tale begins. When the king learns of their relationship he exiles Lachit from the city of Jorhat.
After a few days, an attack on the capital of Ahom by the armies of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb compels the king to sign a peace deal ceding some of his kingdom to the Mughals. However, the treaty’s provisions are not favourable for Lachit and Prince Chakradhwaj his closest friend.
Trouble then becomes worse when a prince from an Ahoms-loyal nation incites other smaller kings to revolt and attack the capital Jorhat. In a conflict that has the potential to permanently alter the course of the Ahom monarchy, Lachit and Prince Chakradhwaj defend the capital.
Readers are left wondering in the story’s finale if Lachit, Prince Chakradhwaj and Princess Padmini would be able to put an end to the rebels’ rebellion secede from the Mughals and restore the Ahoms’ former splendour.
In addition to penning the scripts for “Bajrangi Bhaijaan” and “Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi,” Vijayendra Prasad is a multiple award-winning writer of the “Baahubali” movie that shattered all box office records.
Kulpreet Yadav, one of his collaborators is a retired member of the Indian Coast Guard who has published novels in a variety of genres including espionage, military history and true crime. ‘The Battle of Rezang La’ (Penguin, 2021) is his most recent work and he resides in Mumbai.
