Assam: Majuli bound ferry with 134 passengers goes missing

Guwahati, 19 June: The ferry MV Lohit which was travelling to Majuli vanished in the middle of the Brahmaputra River in Assam on Monday .

According to reports, the ferry was travelling from Nimati Ghat in Jorhat to Kamalabari Majuli.

Reportedly, the ferry left Nimati Ghat at 1.30 pm with 134 passengers and 32 bikes on board but it is suspected to have vanished amidst the dence fog.

Concerns about the ferry’s passengers’ safety increase as time passes. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) launched a search and rescue operation right away, leaving Kamalabari.

Authorities are stepping up their rescue efforts while trying to find the missing ferry and its passengers.

Further reports are awaited.
