Manipur Violence: Home Minister Amit Shah to chair all party meeting today
National Desk, 24 June: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will preside over an all-party conference on Saturday in Delhi to discuss the current situation in the violence hit Manipur.
The home minister will preside over the meeting which will be held at 3 p.m. in the nation’s capital to discuss the situation in the violently unstable northeastern state. Since May 3, the state has experienced incidents like arson which led the state government to extend the internet ban until June 25 in an effort to maintain peace.
Meanwhile, questioning on the timing for convening an all-party meeting, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said, “Manipur has been burning for 50 days, but the Prime Minister remained silent. An all-party meeting was called when the Prime Minister himself is not in the country! Clearly, this meeting is not important for the Prime Minister.”
It should be noted that Manipur has been experiencing upheaval since May 3 with reports of new violence that has killed hundreds of people and injured many more.
On June 21, a bomb placed in an SUV that went off in Bishnupur injured three persons.
The improvised explosive device (IED) was installed in the car late on Wednesday night, according to a report by NDTV. Soon after, more security personnel were sent out.
One of the three victims injured in the explosion was reportedly in critical condition. They were all sent to the Bishnupur District Hospital.
