QS World Rankings: IITG enters world’s top list

News desk, 28 June: Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (IITG) has earned a spot in the list of top 25% universities worldwide, according to the QS World University Rankings 2024.

The top institute is currently ranked 364 in the world and 7 in India in terms of total rankings. The Institute has moved up 20 positions globally and 1 position in India as a result.

The QS World University Rankings 2024 were announced on Tuesday. It shows that IIT Guwahati’s ranking has increased by at least 237 positions from 2014, going from the 601-650 range in 2014 to 364th in 2023.

With an average publication per faculty of 5.0, IIT Guwahati ranks 32 globally in terms of research citations per professor making it the strongest indication.

IIT Guwahati’s officiating director, Prof. Parameswar K. Iyer, expressed his satisfaction with the institution’s performance.

He said, “We are continuously restructuring the methodologies to improve learning, research, and innovation at IIT Guwahati. The research done at the institute has an impact on both the global and local scale. We are continuously striving to foster industry-academia collaborations, promote startups and facilitate technology transfer through our state-of-the-art facilities. These rankings validate our commitment to research, innovation, and academic excellence.”

Since their inception in 2004, the QS World University Rankings have used the following factors to determine their rankings: Academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty student ratio, citations per faculty, international faculty student ratio, employment outcome, global research network and sustainability.

2,963 institutions from all over the world were assessed for the 2024 edition and 1,503 institutions were ranked.  In India 44 institutions have been ranked this year.
