Assam Wrestling Association officially recognized as WFI Affiliate Member
Guwahati, 22nd July: The Assam Wrestling Association has officially been recognized as an associated member of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), according to reports on Saturday.
With this, the Assam Wrestling Association is now able to take part in the election and propose a candidate for the Electoral College.
Notably, the Assam Wrestling Association has written to the Gauhati High Court to request acceptance as a state affiliate of the WFI for the Electoral College.
According to reports, the state wrestling organization has been denied recognition for the previous 30 years.
The original date for the WFI elections was July 11. The Gauhati High Court postponed it after the Assam Wrestling Association submitted a petition seeking the right to take part in the election process. The Assam Wrestling Association claimed in the petition that, despite a recommendation given by the WFI Executive Committee at the WFI’s General Council in Gonda on November 15, 2014, it had not been awarded membership as an affiliated member of the WFI.
Reportedly, the petitioner also argued that the election process should be put on hold until the state organization was associated with the WFI and permitted to propose a representative to the electoral college.
