Maharashtra Landslide Death Toll Reaches 26; Rescue Operations Continue Amid Heavy Rain

National Desk, 22nd July: The devastating landslide in Maharashtra’s Raigad district has resulted in a tragic death toll of 26, with reports emerging on Saturday.

As the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) enters the third day of rescue operations, four more bodies have been recovered despite facing challenges posed by heavy rainfall. The rescue efforts remain ongoing as 82 individuals are yet to be located.

The heart-wrenching incident unfolded in Irshalwadi village, situated in Khalapur tehsil of Raigad district. The landslide has left at least 17 out of 48 houses buried under the debris, causing immense loss and displacement in the area.

To address the devastating impact and prevent further loss of life, the Maharashtra government has made the critical decision to relocate residents from landslide-prone areas to safer locations.

In their tireless efforts, the NDRF has employed sniffer dogs at the site to assist in locating individuals trapped beneath the mud and rubble.

Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde, and his family members met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday to provide a comprehensive briefing on the situation prevailing in Raigad, seeking support and assistance in the ongoing rescue and recovery operations.

As the rescue operations continue, the nation stands in solidarity with the affected communities, extending prayers and support to all those affected by this tragic natural disaster.
