Assam to Establish Government Pharmacies Amid Essential Medicine Price Hike

Guwahati, 5th August: In response to the recent price hike of essential medicines, Assam Health Minister Keshab Mahanta announced on Saturday the establishment of government pharmacies in the state to cater to the needs of the general public.

This decision comes as essential medicine prices have seen a second increase within a year.

Minister Mahanta assured that all medicines would be available at affordable prices in these government pharmacies, aiming to alleviate the burden of rising medical costs on the public.

In addition, the state plans to boost the availability of generic drug pharmacies and has encouraged doctors to prescribe generic drugs instead of brand-name medicines. This move is intended to offer more cost-effective healthcare options to the people of Assam.
