Assam Plans to Establish 18 New Toll Gates Across the State

Guwahati, 28th August: Assam is moving forward with plans to introduce 18 new toll gates across the state, with an announcement made earlier this year in April. This expansion, if approved, would increase the total number of toll gates in Assam to 27, potentially impacting the cost of goods transportation.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma addressed concerns related to this tollgate expansion during an Assam Legislative Assembly session in April, emphasizing the need for balance and fairness in the toll collection process.

Currently, Assam has nine operational toll gates managed by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI). An additional nine gates are under construction, and plans for constructing four more gates have been confirmed. Furthermore, five toll gates have already been completed.

The tollgate expansion initiative is a collaborative effort involving the National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL) and NHAI. This expansion aims to enhance the state’s infrastructure and contribute to its overall development.
