Ferry Services Suspended Amidst Rising Brahmaputra Water Levels

Guwahati, 28th August: The Inland Water Transport Department (IWTD) of Assam has announced the suspension of ferry services between Guwahati and North Guwahati due to the alarming increase in the water level of the Brahmaputra River. This decision, prompted by the rising water levels, aims to ensure the safety of passengers and the public.

The Brahmaputra River has surpassed the danger mark of 105.70 meters in Dibrugarh, with the water level reaching 105.72 meters as of Sunday evening. The escalating water levels have led to flooding in low-lying areas, necessitating the evacuation of residents from their homes to safer locations.

Earlier, the Majuli-Nimati ferry services were also indefinitely suspended due to the continuous heavy rainfall causing a surge in the water levels of the Brahmaputra River. The sudden suspension of services has caused concern and unease among passengers.

As the authorities work to manage the situation and ensure the safety of the public, ferry services will remain suspended until the water levels recede and conditions improve.
