Northeast Desk, 31st August: The East Khasi Hills District Magistrate has enforced Section 144 in the vicinity of the Secretariat Hill until further notice.
The move, initiated on August 30, involves the imposition of Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) in and around the Secretariat Hill. This preemptive measure is intended to prevent potential law-and-order disturbances, given reports of planned demonstrations across the district by certain groups.
Under the order, individuals are prohibited from conducting demonstrations or rallies within a 200-meter radius of the Raj Bhavan and the Meghalaya Secretariat Building.
This decision has been taken in light of the anticipated demonstrations by various organizations.
