Assam Legislative Assembly’s Autumn Session Commences with Discussions on PSO Removal

Guwahati, 11th September: The first day of the Autumn Session of the Assam Legislative Assembly commenced today at the newly constructed Assembly building in Dispur, Guwahati. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma addressed the session, and several discussions are expected to take place during the five-day program.

Baghbor MLA Sherman Ali Ahmed raised a question seeking the restoration of his Personal Security Officer (PSO). In response, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that the report received from the Superintendent of Police indicated that the PSO had been removed because the legislator was alleged to have incited people and ordered the PSO to use force.

Citing threats to his life due to political enmity and recent attacks, the Baghbor MLA requested the Chief Minister to review his request.

During the Assembly session, CM Sarma urged the legislator to “please act maturely,” as such incidents typically warrant strict action against elected representatives who engage in violent situations involving the incitement of people and ordering security personnel to use force.

This exchange in the Assembly highlights the importance of responsible behavior and security protocols within the legislative process.
