NHRC India Conducts Camp Sitting to Address Human Rights Violations in North-Eastern States
Guwahati, 17th November: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) India is actively addressing over 40 pending cases of human rights violations in the North-Eastern States during its camp sitting at the Administrative Staff College, Guwahati. This two-day initiative includes sensitizing local self-governments on various human rights aspects and a national conference on ‘Advancing Human Rights through Local Self Governments.’
Chaired by Justice Arun Mishra, along with Members Dr. Dnyaneshwar M. Mulay and Rajiv Jain, the NHRC delegation, accompanied by Secretary General Bharat Lal, Registrar (Law) Surajit Dey, and Joint Secretary D.K. Nim, is engaging with stakeholders to address pressing human rights concerns in the region.
Key participants in the national conference include the Chairpersons of the State Human Rights Commissions of Assam, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, and Sikkim, alongside senior officers from Central and State Governments. The conference aims to foster a comprehensive understanding of human rights issues and explore ways to enhance their protection and promotion.
The NHRC’s agenda includes meetings with Chief Secretaries, DGPs, and senior officers from the eight North-Eastern states to review the implementation of advisories and recommendations. The overarching goal is to ensure the safeguarding and promotion of human rights for all individuals in the respective states.
During the camp sitting, the NHRC is also set to convene a meeting with all State Human Rights Commissions (SHRCs) of North-Eastern states. The objective is to synergize efforts, share insights, and generate awareness across diverse sections of society to strengthen the protection of human rights in the region.
