Former Assam Youth Congress Leader Criticizes Congress Ideology
Guwahati, 28th January: Former Assam Youth Congress president, Angkita Dutta, criticized the Congress party, stating that it now revolves around rebranding Rahul Gandhi rather than following Mahatma Gandhi’s ideology. Speaking ahead of her joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Dutta expressed disappointment with the party’s shift in focus and highlighted instances where she felt Rahul Gandhi prioritized personal branding over interacting with ground-level workers.
Dutta also addressed her dissatisfaction with how the Congress leadership handled her case, emphasizing the need for justice for women like her within the party. Her decision to join the BJP was influenced by her belief in Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s popularity and his contributions to Assam’s recognition on national and international platforms.
Notably, Angkita Dutta, daughter of former Assam Congress Minister Anjan Dutta, had staged a protest seeking justice after being removed from the Congress party following allegations of harassment during her tenure as the president of Assam Youth Congress. The incident sparked a debate on the effectiveness of internal mechanisms in political organizations to address serious allegations.
