Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Engages in Candid Interaction with Madrassa Students
Guwahati, 2nd February: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma engaged in a candid conversation with students from a madrassa in Hurmuti, Kaziranga constituency. During the interaction, the chief minister inquired about the students’ enrollment in the madrassa, their origin, and the subjects taught.
Amidst the enthusiastic gathering of madrassa students, Sarma questioned them about their curriculum, and the students shared that, besides religious studies, they were taught English, Assamese, Maths, Hindi, and Social Science. In a light-hearted exchange, the chief minister also asked the students if they had any knowledge of politics, prompting one student to mention that his father is a BJP member.
The madrassa, reportedly opened by Jamal Ahmed, drew the attention of the chief minister, who expressed interest in visiting it during his next trip. It’s worth noting that in December 2020, the Assam government, under the leadership of Himanta Biswa Sarma as the then state education minister, decided to convert all government-run madrasas into general educational institutions, ceasing their functioning.
