Yellow Alert Issued for Heavy Rainfall in Northeast states including Mizoram and Tripura
Northeast Desk, 20th February: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall in several northeast states, including Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on February 22.
According to the weather bureau, isolated rainfall is expected on February 22, with rainfall ranging from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm across the aforementioned states.
Recent forecasts indicate the likelihood of light to moderate rainfall across various parts of Northeast India from Tuesday to Friday (Feb 20-23). Thundershowers accompanied by lightning are also predicted during this period, with possible snowfall in higher-altitude regions.
The intensity of rainfall is anticipated to escalate a day or two after its onset, with heavy rain or snow expected in parts of Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday and Thursday (Feb 21-22).
Heavy showers may also occur in parts of Assam and Meghalaya on Wednesday and Thursday, and Nagaland on Thursday. Overall, Northeast India is expected to experience a wet week, with most areas likely to receive rainfall between Wednesday and Friday. Residents are advised to reconsider any planned outings for the coming days.
