Assam: Ex Bongaigaon district Congress president resigns from party ahead of elections

Guwahati, 20th February: In a series of setbacks for the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), former Bongaigaon district Congress president Shankar Prasad Rai and APCC joint general secretary Ratul Kurmi have both tendered their resignations on February 20, citing personal reasons.

Shankar Prasad Rai, in his resignation letter addressed to the APCC president, stated, “I tender my resignation from all posts and primary membership of the Indian National Congress party due to personal reasons.”

Ratul Kurmi, known to be close to MP Gaurav Gogoi, also resigned from the primary membership of the Congress party citing personal problems. In his letter to APCC chief Bhupen Borah, Kurmi expressed his decision to step down from every post within the party due to personal issues.

These resignations come as a double blow to the Congress party in Assam, raising concerns about internal cohesion and leadership stability.
