Manipur: Two Arrested in Moreh for Illegal Drug Possession

Northeast Desk, 22nd March: Manipur police on March 21 announced the arrest of Tongkhohao Haokip, aged 44, and Jamkholun Baite, aged 48, both residents of Moreh, for illegal possession of contraband drugs. The arrest took place in Canan Veng Village, Moreh, where the duo was apprehended.

The seized contraband included nine large packets and one open packet of suspected WY tablets, with an estimated weight of 11.740 kilograms, equivalent to approximately 80,000 tablets, inclusive of packaging materials. Alongside the drugs, authorities confiscated two mobile phones, Rs 400 in cash, and an auto-rickshaw from the arrested individuals. The case is currently under investigation.

In parallel, security forces conducted search operations and area domination activities in fringe and vulnerable areas of hills and valley districts. Ensuring the smooth flow of essential goods, security personnel facilitated the movement of 219 vehicles along NH-37 and 255 vehicles along NH-2.

Stringent security measures were implemented in all vulnerable locations, with security convoys deployed in sensitive stretches to guarantee the free and safe movement of vehicles. Across Manipur, a total of 128 Nakas/Checkpoints were established in various districts, resulting in the detention of 313 individuals for violations.
