Helpline for Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), 2019 Now Operational: Home Ministry

National Desk, 22nd March: A helpline dedicated to assisting individuals seeking Indian nationality under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 (CAA) commenced operations on Thursday, providing essential support and information to applicants across the nation.

Interested individuals can avail of this service by dialing the toll-free number ‘1032’ between 8 am and 8 pm from any location within India, announced a spokesperson from the Home Ministry.

Furthermore, to streamline the application process, a mobile application for applying for Indian citizenship under the CAA was launched earlier on March 15. Additionally, a new portal has been introduced to facilitate the submission of applications for those eligible for Indian citizenship under the CAA. Applicants can access the portal at https://indiancitizenshiponline.nic.in.

The Union Home Ministry is set to launch a mobile app named ‘CAA-2019’ to further enhance accessibility and convenience for applicants. This initiative aligns with the government’s commitment to providing efficient and user-friendly avenues for citizenship application submissions.

Yesterday, The Citizenship (Amendment) Rules, 2024, under the CAA-2019, were officially notified. The CAA aims to extend Indian citizenship to persecuted minorities, including Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi, and Christian communities, from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan.

The Citizenship Amendment Act, receiving the assent of the President on 12th December 2019, represents a significant step in providing refuge and support to persecuted individuals seeking sanctuary in India.
