Constant Showers Wrecks Havoc Across Sikkim

Undaunted by constant showers, the DM North, Tenzing T Kaleon along with Incharge,  Dzongu constituency,  Ms. Chungkipo Lepcha, BDO Dzongu, Tempo Bhutia,  panchayat and zilla members, officials from Roads & Bridges Deptt. led by Divisional Engineer, Karma Lachenpa visited the Mantam lake in Upper Dzongu North Sikkim today where the cane bridge which was the lifeline for the villagers has been washed out by the raging Kanaka River last night. The incessant rain also damaged the roads and log bridge leading to Sakyong-Pentong GPU.

The DC North directed the BDO Dzongu to immediately start the construction of suspension foot bridge from tomorrow so that the construction would be completed at the earliest.   He also informed that the Sakyong-Pentong GPU has also been badly affected which is the last villages for human habitation and would possibly be air drop for the essential commodities in these villages in case for emergency. The Incharge Dzongu, Ms Chungkipo Lepcha informed that the government will look into the matter earliest so that no people will suffer anymore.   She also said the the immediate alternative will be given to the construction of foot suspension bridge.

One of the affected villagers from Tingvong village, Ongda Lepcha highlighted about how the people are going through this plight.  He further appealed that a doctor and some paramedical staff be recruited at Tingvong PHC as it is not possible for the patient to take to Mangan during medical emergency. The incessant rain also blocked Mangan-Chungthang road at two places which will take atleast two three days to reopen.
