Guwahati, 21st April: In a distressing turn of events, police have seized evidence, including mobile phones and dustbins, from the scene of a brutal assault on a police officer at Basistha Police Station in Guwahati, Assam. Actress Korobi Sharma and Mayuri Gautam have been detained in connection with the incident.
The assault unfolded following a confrontation between the officer, identified as Pradeep Basumatary, and individuals at a local bar named ECHO. Initial reports indicate that Basumatary had intervened in response to complaints about recurring altercations at the bar. What began as a verbal exchange swiftly escalated into a physical altercation, culminating in a vicious assault on Basumatary. The assailants even attempted to immolate him by dousing him in diesel.
The harrowing incident, occurring in the early hours of April 21, has rattled the community, shining a spotlight on the perils faced by law enforcement personnel in the discharge of their duties.
Following the assault, two individuals, including the bar owner, have been taken into custody. An intensive investigation is currently underway to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the attack and to ensure that all those responsible are brought to justice.
