Tripura: Sepahijala Zoological Park Implements Measures to Combat Heatwave, Ensures Animal Welfare

Northeast Desk, 28th April: Amidst the severe heatwave affecting Tripura and other parts of the country, Sepahijala Zoological Park in Tripura has taken proactive steps to ensure the well-being of its animals.

Recognizing the challenges posed by soaring temperatures, zoo authorities have initiated various measures to provide relief to the wildlife in their care. These include offering seasonal fruits such as watermelons, cucumbers, and gourds to keep the animals hydrated and cool.

Additionally, ice cubes and cold-water splashes are being utilized to directly alleviate heat stress among the animals. The administration of Oral Rehydration Solutions (ORS) and other substances further aids in preventing dehydration and maintaining the animals’ health during this challenging period.

To ensure a constant supply of fresh and cool water, zoo staff are diligently changing water levels at various enclosures frequently, enhancing the animals’ ability to cope with the heat.

Dr. Keshab Debnath, the Zoo Doctor, emphasized the feeding of seasonal fruits to herbivores and omnivores, along with providing ice blocks to carnivores and sprinkling cold water regularly. Despite the heatwaves, efforts are being made to ensure the animals’ comfort and well-being.

These proactive measures underscore the zoo’s commitment to animal welfare amidst increasingly harsh weather conditions. Sepahijala Zoological Park’s actions serve as an example of adapting care practices to meet the evolving needs of wildlife in response to environmental challenges.
