Arunachal: NPP Alleges BJP MLA Candidate of Booth Capturing in State Assembly Elections

Northeast Desk, 26th May: The National People’s Party (NPP) representing the Rumgong Assembly Constituency has demanded the disqualification of the BJP MLA candidate for Rumgong Assembly seat, accusing him of booth capturing at the 22-Molom Dere polling station on April 19.

During a press conference at the Arunachal Press Club on May 25, Karmur Jerang, the election agent of the NPP candidate from Rumgong A/C, alleged that the BJP MLA candidate had unlawfully captured the booth and cast votes repeatedly despite being stopped by the presiding officer.

Jerang claimed that this act violated the Representation of the People Act, 1951, as well as Section 135A, 324, and 326 of the Indian Constitution. He asserted that the entire incident of vote casting was recorded on CCTV cameras and witnessed by all the officers on poll duty, including the general observer, district election officer, returning officers, and others.

According to Jerang, the CCTV footage clearly shows the BJP candidate repeatedly casting votes.

He further alleged that booth capturing also occurred at the 24-Yosing Dere polling station by BJP workers. “We waited for the officers to take action as they were already aware of the situation and the violation of norms, yet nothing was done,” Jerang lamented.

In addition to demanding the arrest of the BJP MLA candidate for violating election rules, the NPP warned that it would launch a democratic movement if the Chief Election Commissioner fails to take any action before the counting day.
