Assam: Karimganj Police Seize Large Haul of Spurious Liquor in Night Operation

Guwahati, 7th May: In a major crackdown on illegal liquor trafficking, Karimganj police recovered a substantial quantity of spurious liquor during a naka check, detaining the driver and seizing the truck involved.

The operation occurred when a truck attempting to enter Assam from Mizoram was stopped by the night patrolling team of Nagara Police Outpost. The police seized 1,710 liters of illicit liquor hidden in a truck bearing registration number AS/26/C/9218.

The confiscated liquor included 2,592 bottles of Kingfisher (500 ml each), 432 bottles of Royal Stag (750 ml each), 48 bottles of Blender’s Pride (750 ml each), and 72 bottles of Signature (750 ml each), with an estimated market value of Rs 8 lakh. This significant haul underscores the persistent issue of illegal liquor trafficking in the region.

Authorities have intensified efforts to combat the illegal trade of spurious liquor, emphasizing the severe health risks and economic losses associated with such activities. The truck driver is currently in custody, and further investigations are underway to dismantle the network involved in this illicit trade.

The swift action by Karimganj police has been lauded as a critical step towards curbing the illegal liquor market, ensuring public safety, and upholding the law.
