Meghalaya: NPP Confident of Victory in Upcoming Gambegre Bypolls
Northeast 10th July: As the National People’s Party (NPP) gears up for the upcoming Gambegre bypolls, party leader and Meghalaya Cabinet Minister Rakkam A Sangma has expressed confidence that the party will emerge victorious. Despite a significant setback in the recent Lok Sabha elections, Sangma assured that the NPP would secure a substantial number of votes.
Sangma highlighted the party’s journey, noting its growth from a few MLAs to forming their own government at the highest level. The selection process for the Gambegre Assembly seat bypolls has reportedly concluded, with sources indicating that a high-profile candidate has been chosen. Mehtab Chandee, wife of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, is suggested to be the party’s likely nominee.
Although media reports suggest that the party will hold another round of discussions before announcing the candidate’s name, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has asserted that the decision-making process has not caused any differences within his family or the National People’s Party. A total of eight names were reportedly finalized.
