Security Forces Seize Large Cache of Arms in Manipur, Arrest Two

Northeast 10th July: Security forces in Manipur have arrested two individuals in possession of a substantial cache of arms and ammunition during an operation in Phaitol Village, Tamenglong District. The operation, part of ongoing search and area domination exercises in the state’s hill and valley districts, led to the arrest of Lunjakap Guite and Kaplal Singson.

The seized arsenal included two SBBL guns, one .303 rifle, and one Pumpi bomb.

In a similar operation in YC Hill, Saikot village, Churachandpur District, security personnel recovered a single barrel gun (country-made), three improvised heavy mortars (Pumpi), four live cartridges bore marked 70 mm (local-made), three empty cartridge bores, and two empty cartridges for improvised mortars.

Additionally, from the Hill Range of village K Lhangnom in Kangpokpi District, the forces seized a significant cache consisting of one carbine machine gun with a magazine, two 12-bore guns (local-made), one .303 magazine, one HE-36 hand grenade, two 80 WP smoke grenades, one stun grenade, one Baofeng radio set, twenty-one live round ammunitions, and nine blank rounds.

Meanwhile, security measures ensured the safe movement of 212 and 145 vehicles along NH-37 and NH-2, respectively, transporting essential items.

To bolster security, a total of 118 Nakas/checkpoints have been established across various districts in Manipur, both in the hills and the valleys. These efforts have led to the detention of 85 individuals for various violations, reinforcing the commitment to maintaining peace and order in the region.
