Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Resignation Rumored Amid Escalating Protests
International Desk, 5th August: Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina may have resigned from her position, though no official confirmation has been provided, reports emerged. Hasina, along with her younger sister Sheikh Rehana, was reportedly transported to India in a military helicopter following a surge in protests that have resulted in at least 300 deaths.
The current whereabouts of Hasina remain unclear, with speculation suggesting she has been moved to a “safer” location. The situation has become increasingly volatile, with protesters breaching the Prime Minister’s official residence, according to Bengali newspaper Prothom Alo.
In response to the escalating unrest, Hasina’s son has called on the country’s security forces to prevent any forceful takeover attempts by the demonstrators. The military is expected to address the public soon, with General Waker scheduled to speak at 2:00 pm local time (0800 GMT), as reported by Rashedul Alam, an official from the Inter-Service Public Relations.
Bangladesh Law Minister Anisul Haq has acknowledged the volatile nature of the situation, stating, “The situation is volatile, and I don’t know what’s happening myself.”
The situation in Bangladesh remains fluid, with ongoing developments expected to clarify the political landscape and the Prime Minister’s status.
