Assam: Class 8 Student Drowned in Rangjuli River

Guwahati, 5th August: A tragic incident occurred on August 5 when 14-year-old Pragya Rabha, a Class 8 student from Moishkhali Khamar village and a pupil at St. Francis of Assisi High School, was swept away and drowned in a river in Rangjuli.

Pragya, along with her mother and other family members, had visited the village for a day trip. In the afternoon, while returning from the fields, she attempted to wash her hands and feet in a small river at Thakuriapara. The river’s strong current quickly overpowered her, and she was swept away.

Rangjuli police, along with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and local residents, launched a search operation. Despite their efforts, Pragya’s body was found submerged in the river after an extensive search.

The Rangjuli police have since transported Pragya’s body to the police station and then sent it to Goalpara for a postmortem examination. The incident has deeply saddened the local community and highlights the dangers posed by strong river currents.
