Meghalaya Government to Consider Salary Enhancement for SSA Non-Academic Staff

Northeast Desk, 6th August: The Meghalaya government is set to address the demands of the protesting Samagra Shiksha (SSA) non-academic staff for salary enhancement. This decision came to light during the second meeting of the rationalization committee, formed to examine the proposal for salary enhancements and rationalization for all SSA staff across the state, districts, and block levels.

The state government has assured to provide a written assurance regarding their considerations, as informed by Jennifer J Synrem, president of the All Meghalaya SSA Non-Teaching Staff Association (AMSSANTSA). Synrem noted that the meeting ended positively, with the committee agreeing to 70% of their demands and expressing hope that the remaining 30% would be addressed soon.

Another meeting is likely scheduled for August 6 to further discuss the demands. The first meeting of the 20-member rationalization committee, headed by Commissioner & Secretary of Education, took place on August 2. This meeting covered various aspects of the terms of reference and resulted in five-point recommendations.

The committee also decided to submit recommendations in stages, considering the complexity of the issues, the years of service rendered by the staff, and an annual increment of 5% on the base pay plus increment.
