Manipur Police Nabs Two KYKL Militants; Seizes Arsenal in Major Crackdown
Northeast Desk, 6th August: In a significant crackdown, Manipur Police arrested two active members of the banned KYKL outfit from Keirak Khongnang Makhong in Kakching District. The individuals, Elangbam Rajen Singh (47) and Ningthoujam Ibomcha Singh (53), were allegedly extorting money from locals and government employees in the Kakching, Hiyanglam, and Sekmaijin areas. Authorities confiscated a four-wheeler and a mobile phone from the suspects.
Simultaneously, security forces conducted extensive search operations in vulnerable hill and valley districts, leading to substantial recoveries in Thoubal District’s foothills. Seized items included two 9mm SMGs, two 9mm pistols, one .32 pistol, two country-made .303 rifles, a 12-bore single-barrel gun, several grenades, live ammunition, a tube launcher, and communication equipment.
The operations also focused on securing the movement of essential goods along NH-2, facilitating the transit of 220 vehicles under tight security. A total of 102 checkpoints were established across the state, resulting in the detention of 44 individuals for various violations, underscoring the intensified security measures in place to maintain order and safety in Manipur.
