Student Union Urges Arunachal Government to Heighten Border Vigilance Amid Bangladesh Unrest
Northeast Desk, 8th August: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) has called on the Arunachal Pradesh government to intensify surveillance along the inter-state border to prevent illegal immigration from Bangladesh. This request comes amid escalating unrest in Bangladesh, which has led to significant displacement and reports of attempts by displaced individuals to enter India.
AAPSU’s representation to State Home Minister Mama Natung highlights concerns about potential disruptions to the tribal ecology and demographic balance of Arunachal Pradesh due to illegal immigration. The student body stresses the urgency of safeguarding indigenous communities and maintaining the socio-cultural fabric of the state through stringent border measures.
The unrest in Bangladesh has resulted in a reported death toll of 440 due to anti-government protests. In response to the crisis, Nobel laureate Mohammad Yunus has been appointed by President Mohammed Shahabuddin to lead an interim government, following the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. As the interim government prepares to assume office, local residents in Bangladesh are forming groups to protect against robbery and looting.
